A new Captain America: Civil War trailer dropped today, and, while it recycles a lot of footage we have already seen in previous trailers, a few takeaways make the film all the more highly anticipated.
We see an extension of the scene where Iron Man makes the scathing statement that he would like to “punch [Cap] in [his] perfect teeth.”
We see a snippet of Chadwick Boseman out of his Black Panther costume, emotionally reacting to an attack on his homefront of Wakanda and showing us why he is in the mix in this movie at all.
We also, unfortunately, see even more of the downfall of Rhodes. Based on the graphic match (which could be muddy given it’s a trailer), it seems to have been executed at the hands of The Winter Soldier himself, whose bloodlust against Stark and company in these trailers is exceedingly high.
We see the Scarlet Witch with a surprising ability to incapacitate Vision, who appeared previously to be a ringer for the Stark clan.
Oh and we also get a glimpse of a friendly neighborhood something or other. No big deal.
Just kidding, it’s awesome. Spider-Man appears at the end of this trailer, portrayed by 19-year-old Tom Holland and adjustable eye-holes. The suit is a bit clashing with the aesthetic of the other heroes in the world, but I don’t care to pick nits with stuff like that. His entrance is great in this trailer, and that is what counts for the moment.
That is of course the highlight of the trailer, and likely the only reason people are talking about it. Everything else is small snippets of new interspersed with a lot of the same. But you have to hand it to Marvel that they are generating substantial hype about this film, and I think they are doing a better job of it than they did with Avengers 2.
As always, thanks for reading!
