This is a tough category to call. Almost all (with the exception of Anna B. Sheppard) of the nominees have won at least one Oscar before. I give the edge to The Grand Budapest Hotel on account of Milena Canonero’s veteran status and the Critics Choice Award that she won early this year. The real competition for Budapest is Colleen Atwood, another Academy favorite, for Into the Woods. The fantastical costuming in that film was truly great, but I feel that the movie as a whole didn’t have a good enough reception to warrant an award. Inherent Vice also has costuming worth noting, but one-time winner Mark Bridges is a long-shot this year.
