Another May weekend, but it doesn’t quite feel like Summer yet. At least, not in terms of the Summer movie season. May 13 sees the release of two new films in wide release: Money Monster and The Darkness. It is also the second weekend of Marvel Studios newest behemoth, Captain America: Civil War, so those new movies are likely to be left in the dust.
That said, both new releases sport stars in their cast, particularly Money Monster, which stars George Clooney and Julia Roberts, and it is directed by Jodie Foster. The Darkness is led by Kevin Bacon, but it is also a horror release that is opening in only about 1,700 theaters (compare that to Money Monster‘s 3,000).
With this in mind, and keeping an eye on other releases entering their third and fourth weekends, here’s a crack at who will beat the box office this weekend:
Box Office: Weekend of 5/13
- Captain America: Civil War – $65 million
- Money Monster – $25 million
- The Jungle Book – $18 million
- Mother’s Day – $6 million
- The Darkness – $3.5 million
