Weekend Box Office Predictions: August 11 – 13

Last weekend was the slowest of the Summer, financially. The Dark Tower topped the list with an under-performing $19 million. Can it hold on to its crown with three new movies on the horizon: Annabelle: Creation, The Nut Job 2, and The Glass Castle?

Weekend Box Office Predictions: June 30 – July 2

Last weekend, the fifth installment in the Michael Bay Transformers franchise, The Last Knight, drastically under-performed. Coming in at $44.6 million, the film has received the lowest grossing opening weekend in the franchise.

With that knowledge, the introductory weekend to July will prove interesting at the box office. Transformers will likely see a significant drop, and three other wide releases look to take its place at number one.

Weekend Box Office Predictions: June 23 – June 25

All roads have been cleared for Transformers: The Last Knight this weekend. The only new wide release film domestically, The Last Knight will open in 3,900 screens.

This doesn’t mean that other films aren’t around to put up competition, but will any of them be able to topple the box office behemoth that is Transformers?

Weekend Box Office Predictions: June 9 – June 11

June has a lot going for it at the domestic box office. Following Wonder Woman‘s record breaking opening weekend ($103 million), this weekend is going to impress with the added release of Universal’s The Mummy. Two other new releases—A24’s It Comes At Night and Bleecker Street’s Megan Leavey—look to compete against the impressive lineup of current releases that also includes Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales and Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie.

With all of this competition, who comes out on top?

Weekend Box Office Predictions: June 2 – June 4

The first weekend of June is looking to be a smash at the domestic box office. A strong opening for Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales could translate into an equally strong second week. The impressive run of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is looking to continue into June.

And then there’s this little movie. This DC Studios film by the name of Wonder Woman.

2017 Summer Box Office Predictions

I’m about a month late to this game, but, you know, life gets in the way sometimes. Who are you to judge? This said, I am cheating a bit with a month’s worth of data already available.

Either way, it is time to take a look at what Hollywood blockbusters will top the domestic box office in Summer 2017 (Summer 2017 in this case encompassing the period between the first weekend in May and Labor Day weekend). Shall we?

Weekend Box Office Predictions: 4/19 – 4/21

In 2012, Prometheus became the highest grossing Alien movie (not adjusted for inflation). Weirdly enough, it wasn’t really an Alien movie at all.

But the numbers make sense, given the film was Ridley Scott’s return to the beloved franchise that he created. Alien: Covenant, releasing this Friday, is Scott’s return to a real Alien film. Will it take number one this weekend? Do I like to use leading questions as a means of getting people on my homepage to click through to the full article?

Yes. The answer…the answer’s yes.

Weekend Box Office Predictions: 5/5 – 5/7

One large new release will be looking to dominate the domestic box office to kick off May.

Marvel Studios has made it somewhat of a tradition to kickstart the Summer season on the first weekend of May, and 2017 is no different. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will look to capitalize on the surprising success of the 2014 original. But it will also be going up against the international phenomenom that is The Fate of the Furious.

Weekend Box Office Predictions: 4/28 – 4/30

This weekend sees the new release of the Emma Watson-Tom Hanks thriller The Circle, based on the novel by Dave Eggers, and How to Be A Latin Lover, a comedy directed by Ken Marino and starring Eugenio Derbez and Salma Hayek.

Additionally, Bollywood sequel Baahubali 2: The Conclusion will be looking to make a similar smash to its predecessor. According to Box Office Mojo, the first film grossed $3.5 million in its opening weekend, and its sequel has already pulled in an estimated $2.5 million in Thursday night previews.

Weekend Box Office Predictions: 4/21 – 4/23

This weekend is an interesting one in terms of box office. While it is somewhat clear what movie will take the top spot, the number of new releases of various sizes leads to some question marks. There are five new releases this Friday: Unforgettable, Free Fire, The Promise, Born in China, and Phoenix Forgotten. Additionally, The Lost City of Z will see an expansion.

This is adding to the already full theaters that still carry Boss Baby, Beauty and the Beast, and Smurfs. Then there’s Fate of the Furious, entering its second week after a record breaking opening weekend internationally.

It’s a full house. Let’s (try to) figure it out.
