This weekend has a slew of new movies being released. Independence Day: Resurgence is looking to be a box office smash as its predecessor once was, although the numbers will likely be far less stellar. The Blake Lively thriller The Shallows, too, is looking for a piece of the pie by also providing a throwback to a box office behemoth of old, Jaws.
Free State of Jones and The Neon Demon also have releases. The former is hoping for the bankability of its lead to translate into cash. the latter is opening in only 783 theaters, so it is not eyeing a top five spot.
All of these films will face stiff second week competition from the likes of Finding Dory and Central Intelligence. Long story short, this weekend is going to be a battle, and no matter what the box office will come out on top.
Box Office Predictions: Weekend of 6/24
- Finding Dory – $80 million
- Independence Day: Resurgence – $50 million
- The Shallows – $25 million
- Central Intelligence – $12 million
- Free State of Jones – $10 million
