Predicting one of the Oscar short film categories having only seen one of the five films is like calling your shot while wearing a blindfold. It’s like being a movie nerd badass, you know? Or…it’s like understanding what the term Pixar refers to…movie nerd badass is oxymoronic…moronic, really…What were we talking about?
Update: I have now seen all five of the nominated Animated Short Films. You can find a review of all five (save for Piper, a link for that review is below) here.
Best Animated Short Film:
- Blind Vaysha – Theodore Ushev
- Borrowed Time – Andrew Coats, Lou Hamou-Lhadj
- Pear Cider and Cigarettes – Robery Valley, Cara Speller
- Pearl – Patrick Osborne
- Piper – Alan Barillaro, Marc Sondheimer
Will Win: Piper
Could Win: Nothing Else
Alright, so I might not know for certain that Piper is going to win. The short film, which was featured prior to Finding Dory, is the only one I’ve seen. But it is also phenomenally animated. Like, really phenomenal. It is crisp and textured, and seeing it on the big screen made Finding Dory look like a flash cartoon in comparison.
Pick Piper. I’ll let you know if anything changes.
Update: Nothing has changed.
As always, thanks for reading!
