Best Foreign Language Film is one of those categories that I don’t feel qualified to discuss, mainly because I’ve only seen one of the five films. But…I think I’ve got this.
Best Foreign Language Film:
- A Man Called Ove
- The Salesman
- Tanna
- Toni Erdmann
- Land of Mine
Will Win: Toni Erdmann
Could Win: A Man Called Ove
Dark Horse: The Salesman
Yep, I put The Salesman as a dark horse to cover my bases. It could really be any of the other three at dark horse, but I’m going on GoldDerby logic at this point. Plus, the film is from the same writer-director behind the Academy Award-winning and all-around great film A Separation.
Toni Erdmann is seemingly the industry favorite, but A Man Called Ove (the one I’ve seen) is quite good. It is also nominated elsewhere in the show, which means the Academy isn’t just throwing the film in to fill the field. Let’s call it a three-horse race and then call it a day, at least until these films are finally available for me to see.
As always, thanks for reading!
