Weekend Box Office Predictions: 2/24-2/26

Oscar weekend sees the wide release of three new films. Two of these three, as far as I am concerned, have received zero marketing. These would be the films Rock Dog (um…) and Collide (…what?). The third film, also the widest new release of the weekend, is Jordan Peele’s much anticipated and well-reviewed Get Out. The horror film stars Daniel Kaluuya and Allison Williams and is likely to make a splash this weekend.

Returning to the fight are LEGO Batman, Fifty Shades Darker, and The Great Wall. The LEGO Batman Movie, having won the box office in its first two weekends, is likely to remain somewhere in the top three, although anything could happen.

Box Office Predictions: Weekend of 2/24

  1. Get Out – $23 million
  2. The LEGO Batman Movie – $16 million
  3. Fifty Shades Darker – $9 million
  4. The Great Wall – $7 million
  5. John Wick: Chapter Two – $6 million

Rock Dog and Collide are not going to take a large portion of the pie this weekend. A healthy opening could sneak Rock Dog into the five spot, but even this seems unlikely, particularly given how small of a drop John Wick 2 experienced in its first two weekends.

Get Out and LEGO Batman will be the big matchup of the weekend. Get Out‘s stellar reviews should be enough to propel it to the top spot, but Batman will continue its great box office run.
