The field for the 2017 Best Actress Oscar race is large. There is plenty of room for “snubs” and “upsets.” The intrigue of the race is going to be the two inevitable Golden Globe winners fighting for the top spot. The other three nominees could fall in a number of different ways.
Best Actress
- Amy Adams – Arrival
- Isabelle Huppert – Elle
- Ruth Negga – Loving
- Natalie Portman – Jackie
- Emma Stone – La La Land
Will Win: Emma Stone or Natalie Portman
During the Golden Globes, you will see, barring any crazy upsets, Emma Stone and Natalie Portman win Best Actress in their respective categories. What this will lead to is an uncertainty of which actress will win the Oscar. It will almost certainly be one of them, again barring any crazy upsets.
The question is who the other three slots will go to. Amy Adams and Isabelle Huppert seem likely, and Ruth Negga will round out the category. But there is wiggle room here. Annette Bening in 20th Century Women and Meryl Streep in Florence Foster Jenkins are possibilities. Jessica Chastain in Miss Sloane and and Taraji P. Henson in Hidden Figures are dark horse candidates.
