I’ll start this prediction article with my personal bias. I loved Brie Larson in Room, although I never saw her as a frontrunner for the Golden Globe. As such, I was pleasantly surprised to see her take home the award, and it has given me new hope that she could win the Oscar.
Larson still faces tough competition, however. Cate Blanchett and Jennifer Lawrence (both Academy favorites) could easily steal her thunder. However, the actresses’ respective films were lukewarm, in my opinion. Additionally, given Carol went from the most Golden Globes nominations to not receiving a Best Picture Oscar nomination, Blanchett’s chances appear to have dropped.
Then there’s Saoirse Ronan, whose wonderful performance in Brooklyn was overlooked in other award shows. She could sneak up from behind and take home the gold, as well.
Nominees:
- Cate Blanchett (Carol)
- Brie Larson (Room)
- Jennifer Lawrence (Joy)
- Charlotte Rampling (45 Years)
- Saoirse Ronan (Brooklyn)
Will Win: Brie Larson
Could Win: Cate Blanchett
Dark Horse: Saoirse Ronan

As always, thanks for reading!
What do you think? Who will win Best Actress? Who had the best acting performance of 2015? Let me know in the comments!

They’re all really talented actresses. I was happy to see Rampling garner a nod as she’s always such a committed actress.

I haven’t gotten around to watching 45 Years yet, but I’ve heard a lot of good buzz around her performance. I can’t wait to check it out.
