2018 Golden Globes Predictions – Best Original Song

Three animated films, a showbiz musical, and an Americana period piece. Five songs. One Best Original Song category. Numbers, numbers. Yadda, yadda. Let’s talk about it.

The Nominees – Best Song

  • “Remember Me” – Coco
  • “Mighty River” – Mudbound
  • “The Star” – The Star
  • “Home” – Ferdinand
  • “This is Me” – The Greatest Showman

Will Win: Coco

Could Win: The Greatest Showman

Should Win: Coco

The Greatest Showman received a surprising three Golden Globe nominations. It is also a musical starring Hugh Jackman. Therefore, “This is Me” has a pretty good shot in this category.

Then again, Coco

“Remember Me” is the de-facto theme of Coco, a highly-praised Pixar film that hangs recent in the mind of the HFPA. It will win, barring an incredible upset. That upset would likely come in the form of The Greatest Showman. “Mighty River” from Mudbound is also a good song from a good movie, but it seems to be just out of arm’s reach of the award.

As for Ferdinand and The Star, the films don’t have strong enough legs to stand on to upset Coco. If you’re playing the numbers, stick with Coco.
