Mary and the Witch’s Flower is the first feature film from Studio Ponoc, a company made up of several former creators from the famed Studio Ghibli. It tells a story that is essentially Harry Potter adjacent, in which a young girl named Mary (Ruby Barnhill, in the English-language dub) stumbles upon a special flower, an engraved broomstick, and, ultimately, magical powers.

2018 Academy Awards Predictions – Best Animated Film Nominees

The Academy generally does a good job of reserving at least one spot in their Best Animated Feature category for an international picture. This year, there is potential for a number of international films to break the top five. However, there are also a lot of Hollywood pictures that the Academy may want to boast.

Yes this category has its obligatory Pixar nominee. But what of the other four slots? I’ll tell you this much: there are many movies to pick from.
