[Quickie] See This Movie: Kung Fury (2015)

Kung Fury is a 30 minute, throwback spectacle of an action comedy. It is epic in its absurdity. A Miami cop (David Sandberg), after witnessing the death of his partner, who he claims is like a father to him, becomes a kung-fu master after he is struck by lightning and bitten by a cobra. He then must travel back in time to assassinate Hitler after the Fuhrer guns down the police chief.

Sandberg plays the cop gruff and merciless in the best over-the-top way. He is the ultimate lone wolf, speaking only in gruff whispers. It works perfectly with the parodical nature of the film.

Manson Family Vacation (2015) Movie Review

Manson Family Vacation opens on interview footage of notorious criminal Charles Manson addressing why he thinks he receives so many letters from teenagers each year. “I am those kids,” Manson says. “I never lived in your society.” He then engages in some interpretive dance, and the film takes off on that sentiment.

Why James Bond Hasn’t Seen the Last of Christoph Waltz

The new Bond film, Spectre, sports a baddie of epic proportion in Christoph Waltz. Initially dubbed Franz Oberhauser, Waltz plays a man from James Bond’s childhood. After the death of Bond’s parents in a climbing accident, Oberhauser’s father took Bond in as his son. A jealous young Oberhauser then killed his father in what was later reported as an avalanche that killed both father and son.

Spectre (2015) Movie Review

In the new outing for James Bond (Daniel Craig), we open on a gun barrel sequence. The classic gun barrel sequence, which we haven’t seen up front in a Daniel Craig Bond film until now. Signifying a return to classic Bond form, perhaps?

5 Things You Need to Know Before Seeing SPECTRE

  1. What is SPECTRE?

The namesake of the upcoming film, SPECTRE is an international terrorist organization in the James Bond universe. It stands for SPecial Executive for Counter-Intelligence, Terrorism, Revenge, and Extortion. Yeah, it doesn’t really work as an acronym, but Fleming tried. In the books and the films, SPECTRE is involved in Continue reading 5 Things You Need to Know Before Seeing SPECTRE

Skyfall (2012) Movie Review

Skyfall opens on an extended foot and car chase, which is choreographed beautifully. It also ends with the apparent death of James Bond (Daniel Craig), shot and left for dead in the sea as Adele’s thunderous theme kicks in. Of course, Bond survives, but MI6 doesn’t know this. M (Judi Dench) must write his obituary. Her job is also threatened for her reckless actions with her agents in the field.
