Rampage (2018) Movie Review

Rampage is a 1980s arcade game in which three giant, mutated animals—a gorilla, a lizard, and a wolf—stomp through city skylines. The monsters tear down buildings, destroy military vehicles, and eat people. All for points. The game was popular enough to be ported over to multiple video game consoles.

The video game has no story and few characters (the monsters are given names, at least). Yet, somehow, Hollywood has managed to give the intellectual property both of these things. At least, enough of these things to produce a marketable movie.

It isn’t as if the creatures of Rampage are Continue reading Rampage (2018) Movie Review

Academy Awards Predictions 2017 – Best Supporting Actress

Best Supporting Actress: another clear frontrunner already solidified for this 2017 Academy Award. The wiggle room for an upset is razor thin. As with all other acting categories, the SAG awards will influence the category, so nothing is set in stone yet. However, even if the SAG is an out-of-left-field upset, I still don’t see how this clear favorite could lose.

That clear favorite…

2017 Academy Awards Nomination Predictions – Best Supporting Actress

The 2017 race for Best Supporting Actress is possibly the most clear cut category in the bunch. The same five actresses have been nominated for both the Golden Globes and the Screen Actors Guild awards. And these actresses will find themselves vying for the same Oscar statuette, unless something crazy happens.

2017 Golden Globes Predictions – Best Supporting Actress

I like the Golden Globes Best Supporting Actress race. It is full of talent. It is full of competition. And there is no clear winner, per se. That said, let’s get to predicting!

Collateral Beauty (2016) Movie Review

Love, time, and death. The three abstractions that connect every human being on Earth, according to ad exec Howard (Will Smith) in a rousing speech to his colleagues. Three years later, Howard returns to work after the death of his six year old daughter. Cue domino tower cascade.

Howard, in his grief, sends letters to ideas: love, time, and death. He has, for all intents and purposes, an eccentric depression. The type of depression that is Continue reading Collateral Beauty (2016) Movie Review

Skyfall (2012) Movie Review

Skyfall opens on an extended foot and car chase, which is choreographed beautifully. It also ends with the apparent death of James Bond (Daniel Craig), shot and left for dead in the sea as Adele’s thunderous theme kicks in. Of course, Bond survives, but MI6 doesn’t know this. M (Judi Dench) must write his obituary. Her job is also threatened for her reckless actions with her agents in the field.

Following this, MI6’s computers are hacked and their headquarters are destroyed. Bond returns to help remedy the situation, but he’s Continue reading Skyfall (2012) Movie Review
