The Oscars Best Supporting Actor category is one that has yet to be narrowed down. There are a couple of sure-things. There is also plenty of upset potential. The well of actors in the category runs deep. Let’s try to figure it out!
The Best Supporting Actress race is setting out to be a battleground. It’s a battleground with two major players, sure, but the upset potential is reading pretty high.
But let’s not put the cart before the proverbial horse. Before we talk about the battle, we have to determine who’s in the fight.

The crop of contenders for Best Actress this year is fantastic. There won’t be a wasted slot; no matter who gets into the top five, they will have earned their place. All the same, there can only be five!
People were surprised when Greta Gerwig and Jordan Peele were snubbed for the Golden Globes crop of directors. Will they get into the Academy nominations? Is there a scenario in which Spielberg doesn’t get in? Will Guillermo Del Toro win…well that’s an article for another day.

This weekend sees the release of yet another Disney juggernaut, Beauty and the Beast. Next to that is a much smaller new release in Blumhouse Tilt’s The Belko Experiment.
Vying for attention outside of the new kids on the block are a number of healthy box office contenders. Kong: Skull Island and Logan are two big box office draws still looking good in their second and third weekends. And Get Out remains strong as the genre engine that could.
