2018 Golden Globes Predictions – Best Director

The narrative of the Golden Globes director category may end up being more about who was not included over who was. It was a deep well this year, with a lot of strong films coming from new and veteran directors. Yes, it is sad not to see newcomers Greta Gerwig and Jordan Peele in the mix. Yes, it is surprising, yet wholly explainable, to see Ridley Scott here. Yes, Luca Guadagnino should have wound up in the top five.

But we live with the cards we’re dealt. If anything, the snubs make the prediction easier in the Best Director category.

2018 Golden Globes Film Predictions – Who Will Win

Note: As award campaign trajectories are subject to change, so will these predictions. They will be updated as necessary to reflect the most likely candidates as decided by one lone critic.

The 2018 Golden Globes ceremony will be held on January 7, 2018 at 8 p.m. ET.

2018 Golden Globes Predictions – Best Screenplay

The Best Screenplay category of the 2018 Golden Globes is a stacked category. The easiest way to predict this one might be to look to other categories.

2018 Golden Globes Predictions – Best Original Song

Three animated films, a showbiz musical, and an Americana period piece. Five songs. One Best Original Song category. Numbers, numbers. Yadda, yadda. Let’s talk about it.

2018 Golden Globes Predictions – Best Original Score

There are a few factors that go into the choice of Best Original Score: name recognition, a score’s importance to a film, the prominence of the score over other sonic elements, the overall success of the film itself, etc.

In the case of the 2018 crop of Golden Globe nominees, these factors don’t really narrow anything down. But it’s still worth a try!

2018 Golden Globes Predictions – Best Foreign Language Film

One of the trickier Golden Globes categories is Best Motion Picture – Foreign Language, mainly due to the films being hard to see prior to the award ceremony. First They Killed My Father is available to stream on Netflix, but the rest are yet to be available to a wide U.S. audience.

Ah well, shooting fish in a barrel can be fun.

2018 Golden Globes Predictions – Best Animated Feature

When it comes to predicting the winners at the 2018 Golden Globes, Best Motion Picture – Animated is the easiest place to start. Even with a film like The LEGO Batman Movie snubbed for the likes of The Boss Baby and Ferdinand, the category is the most clear-cut and predictable of the lot.

That is…if you believe Pixar is an insurmountable force.

Irresponsibly Early Oscars 2018 Predictions: Best Actor

None of these movies have been released (except for Get Out). Most of these movies don’t even have trailers released. But we’re talking about them anyway.

Hurrah, hearsay!

Irresponsibly Early Oscars 2018 Predictions: Best Actress

Key word: Irresponsibly. As in, I would tell you how many of the below movies I have seen, but you would click away to distance yourself from my poor journalism.

The 2018 Oscars are next March. That’s eight months or so. So…you wanna start guessing?

Irresponsibly Early Oscars 2018 Predictions: Best Picture

It’s Christmas in July! That’s right, it’s time to talk about the Oscars. Wait, I hear you begin to gripe, the 2017 Oscars were mere months ago! How could you possibly be predicting the 2018 Best Picture nominees already?

And you’re right. I can’t. I’ll probably delete all of these Irresponsibly Early Oscar prediction articles by next January once my findings have been proved astoundingly wrong.

Until then, let’s talk about movies that, for the most part, no one has seen yet and discuss them in ways that give them unwarranted hype and grossly premature acclaim.
